SHOUT! Black Gospel Music Moments - Golden Trumpets

Check out the Golden Trumpets’ array of superb soloists on this winsome mid-tempo jubilee number, “Jesus My Doctor.”

In 2023, the Golden Trumpets of tiny Forest City, North Carolina, celebrated their 79th year – performing and ministering throughout the Southeast. The Trumpets only recorded a handful of 45s for the Nashville-based Nashboro label in the mid-1960s. Nashboro dominated the southern traditional soul gospel market in those days... and its releases are always worth searching out.

While the Golden Trumpets never made a dent on the national charts, their longevity is due, in part, to the quartet’s array of excellent singers through the years, including several fine bass singers at a time when most groups had switched to bass guitar. Check out the voices on this winsome mid-tempo jubilee number, “Jesus My Doctor.”
