Shout! Black Gospel Music Moments - Rev. W.M. Anderson and the Jordan River Singers

The obscure Rev. W.M. Anderson and the Jordan River Singers deliver a spirited rendition of the old gospel classic, “Jesus on the Mainline.”

One of the more obscure recordings in the Black Gospel Music Preservation Program is a single 45 by the Rev. W.M. Anderson and the Jordan River Singers. Released in 1951 by the Nashboro label, “Jesus on the Mainline” – with “Won’t We Have a Time (When We Get Over)” on the B-side -- is one of only two known recordings by either Anderson or the Jordan River Singers.

“Jesus on the Mainline,” of course, is one of the most enduring of the old gospel songs and has been recorded by dozens of artists in gospel, country and even rock music. While Anderson sings it the old-fashioned way, it’s the Jordan River Singers providing most of the power with their sturdy, full-throated harmony vocals.
