For Jurors, A Manslaughter Conviction Likely Wasn’t Possible For Amber Guyger

Amber Guyger turned herself in to police after she shot and killed Botham Jean in his own apartment in 2018. She claimed she had mistakenly thought he was a burglar in her apartment. She lived one floor directly below him in the same building.
Jill Ament is a reporter at KWBU. She hails from right here in Central Texas, growing up down the road in Gatesville. She graduated from Texas State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication in May of 2012.
Rhonda is the newest member of the KUT News team, joining in late 2013 as producer for KUT's new daily news program, The Texas Standard. Rhonda will forever be known as the answer to the trivia question, “Who was the first full-time hire for The Texas Standard?” She’s an Iowa native who got her start in public radio at WFSU in Tallahassee, while getting her Master's Degree in Library Science at Florida State University. Prior to joining KUT and The Texas Standard, Rhonda was a producer for Wisconsin Public Radio.
