Arts

Sat. July 27 -Stage Play “Four Women”(KZFrazier Drama)

If you are in the mood for theatre, a performance of the stage play “Four Women” will take place tomorrow evening.  This play is based on the song "Four Women" written and performed by Nina Simone. The song takes four stereotypes of black women and transforms them into a tribute to real women and the play builds on that idea. Tickets are $30 if you buy them ahead of time at Marilyn’s Gift Gallery on Elm, or $35 at the door.  The performance will take place at 6:30 pm tomorrow evening at the Lee Lockwood Library and Museum on Waco Drive.

Mon. July 29  - A Concert of Renaissance Polyphony(Quod Balensi and Armstrong Browning Library & Museum)

Founded in 2018, Quod Balensi is a local musical group that advocates for the education and performance of medieval and renaissance music. On Monday afternoon they are offering a Concert of Renaissance Polyphony.  The concert will provide a polyphonic lens into the comedic, lovely, and disastrous parts of being alive in the 16th century.  The performance will take place from 3:30 pm to 4:40 pm at Armstrong Browning Library on Baylor Campus.  Admission is free.

Waco History Lovers

Sun. July 28  Helen Marie Taylor Museum Open House(Helen Marie Taylor Museum)

If you are interested in Waco History, you have probably been curious about the Helen Marie Taylor Museum.  Mrs. Taylor, who owns the museum, is now 95 and lives in Virginia, so visits to the museum have been hard to come by for the last several years.  This Sunday, Mrs. Taylor is opening the museum for the afternoon. The museum is located at 701 Jefferson Avenue and will be open from 3 -6 pm on Sunday. The public is welcome, but the museum curator requests that you not bring small or unsupervised children.

Friday night fun

Fri July 26  - Double-Toe Jam Clogging Workshop (Mary Poppins Theme)(Double Toe Jam)
Fri Jul 26 thru Sat Jul 27

One of my favorite things about doing Act Locally Waco is that every now and then an event comes up that sounds so ridiculously fun that it just makes me smile to talk about it.  And today is one of those days…

This weekend – starting today and continuing through tomorrow -- is Double-Toe Jam 2019!  Double-Toe Jam is a two-day clogging workshop that will take place at the convention center – the theme this year is Mary Poppins.  Registration is noon today with a welcome dance tonight at 7:30. The workshop continues all day tomorrow. Registration is $40 if you want to dance and $5 if you just want to watch.  Google “Double Toe Jam 2019” for schedules and registration information.

You can find these events and more online at ActLocallyWaco.org under the events calendar.
