SHOUT! Black Gospel Music Moments - Louise McCord

The powerful voice of Louise McCord is featured on the Thomas Whitfield produced gospel stomper, “I’m Going On.”

Louise McCord was singing in church and talent shows by age of 6, and by her teen-age years she was the featured vocalist in the Gospel Heralds, appearing weekly on Detroit gospel radio. Eventually, McCord joined the Rev. Charles Craig’s popular Voices of Tabernacle. The Tabernacles toured throughout the U.S., including Madison Square Garden. She was even featured in the hit documentary film, Wattstax.

For her Savoy Records LP I’m Going On, McCord was paired with famed songwriter, arranger and pianist Thomas Whitfield. Whitfield wrote most of the songs on the album, including the title track ... which gives McCord ample opportunity to show off her impressive vocal chops. And yes, she does sound a lot like Aretha Franklin here!
