Martha Jean “The Queen” Steinberg of Detroit was the undisputed queen of gospel music announcers, so when she writes the liner notes praising an album, you know it’s good. That’s the case with Eddie Robinson’s Reflections of the Man Inside from 1974. Reflections was also one of the first Black gospel LPs released on Word’s new Myrrh label, and specifically signed by A&R legend Billy Ray Hearn.
Robinson was a talented singer and songwriter, penning hits for different artists, including “Breathe on Me,” “He Keeps Doing Great Things for Me” and “Don’t Forget to Remember.” The title track to Reflections of the Man Inside is a stone cold killer, featuring top Motown producers, arrangers and musicians.
I’m Robert Darden … “Shout! Black Gospel Music Moments” is produced by KWBU and the Black Gospel Music Preservation Program at Baylor University Libraries.
