The Rev. Kenneth Glover, called the Singing Evangelist, toured extensively and recorded a host of albums in the 1960s and early ‘70s. One of his many fine LPs is Rejoice in His Great Name, his tribute to the National Baptist Convention USA’s legendary President of the powerful Women’s Auxiliary, Dr. Mary O. Ross. Rejoice in His Great Name features Dr. Ross’s favorite hymns, gospel songs and spirituals – ranging from the beloved old marching hymn “Dwelling in Beulahland” to the anthemic “Because He Lives.”
Glover was a master communicator – and every great speaker has to know when to wrap things up. So the closing track is an up tempo, irresistible arrangement of the spiritual “Roll Jordan, Roll,” that’s the perfect “sending song” for his already amped up congregation!
