Cassietta George would be in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame if all she ever did was be an invaluable member of the Caravans' all-time greatest lineup - Albertina Walker, Inez Andrews, Dorothy Norward, and Shirley Caesar - where she sang one of their first big hits, the immortal "Somebody Bigger Than You or I."
But George did much more than that - she wrote a number of gospel hits - including the signature song, "Walk Around Heaven All Day." She was a consummate performer over the course of at least 16 albums until her passing in 1965.
A good place to start on George's music is her solo album I Must Tell Jesus...the title track gives you a great indication of the soul, depth, and power of her voice and why she was considered a "singer's singer."
